Ham Island, Old Windsor

Counter & King were appointed to design a contemporary house on the banks of the River Thames.

A semi-nautical style, but avoiding obvious pastiche, has been adopted, with the material palette being chosen to suit and complement its unusual riverside setting.

These materials included rendered walls, exposed steel structure, aluminium windows, zinc roofing and timber decking and panelling.

Unusual environmental features include reinforced concrete walls in permanent polystyrene formwork (Beco block), a heat recovery and ventilation system and underfloor heating.
